Head of Accounting Policy

• Establish and lead Monzo's technical accounting policy function for Group, UK, and EU regulated entities in a newly created, high-impact role. • Sit at the intersection of finance and commercial growth, acting as the primary technical interface for the business — assessing new commercial proposals, leading technical accounting fora, and triaging work across the wider finance team. • Work closely with the Group Financial Controller, UK and EU CFOs to deliver high-quality external reporting and technical accounting advisory. • Work remotely from anywhere in the UK or from Monzo's London or Cardiff offices, with flexible working hours.

• Be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CPA) with 5+ years of experience in accounting policy, technical accounting, or Big 4 accounting advisory. • Have strong, hands-on knowledge of IFRS, particularly in specialised areas like IFRS 9. • Demonstrate experience managing workloads across a team and utilising external skill sets rather than working in a silo. • Be able to facilitate technical debate and drive alignment among senior leaders and cross-functional teams. • Communicate technical standards clearly into professional and practical guidance for non-finance stakeholders. • Have sharp prioritisation and organisational skills to effectively triage proposals and maximise the existing capabilities of the wider team while developing those skills further. • Demonstrate resilience and flexibility in a fast-paced, tech-led, and agile environment.

• Have a proven track record within a banking institution or a Big 4 banking/financial services advisory practice. • Bring experience leading the adoption of new accounting standards across regulated entities. • Have experience establishing and chairing internal technical accounting forums. • Bring experience leading technical dialogue with external auditors and authoring robust accounting papers to justify and defend reported positions. • Have experience partnering with commercial and product teams to evaluate accounting implications of new products and lending propositions prior to launch.

• Provide expert advice on complex accounting issues such as revenue recognition, leasing, and financial instruments, and document conclusions in technical memos. • Develop and maintain global accounting policies, ensuring consistency across the organisation and compliance with updated IFRS standards. • Lead projects for the adoption of new accounting standards. • Partner with commercial and product teams to evaluate the accounting implications of new products, lending propositions, and complex transactions prior to launch. • Manage the intake of technical queries, strategically triaging and delegating project components to utilise and develop technical skills within the wider finance team. • Establish, coordinate, and chair an internal technical accounting forum to debate, align, and secure sign-off on accounting estimates, judgements, and new policies. • Act as the dedicated technical accounting partner to the business, translating complex technical standards into actionable business advice. • Lead the technical dialogue with external auditors, authoring robust accounting papers to justify and defend Monzo's reported positions. • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and advisors.
