Senior Software Engineer, Query Execution

• Join MongoDB’s Query Execution team as a Senior Software Engineer, working remotely from the UK. • Help develop a high-performing, reliable and modular distributed query system. • Implement and maintain execution algorithms and build new query language features. • Tune database performance to power customers’ critical workloads. • Contribute high-quality C++ code to the MongoDB query engine. • Grow into leading major features and mentoring new engineers within a year.

• Bring 5+ years of experience in systems programming. • Show hands-on experience building industrial-strength software. • Bring solid computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and software design. • Work with large codebases, ideally in C++, C, Rust or a similar compiled language. • Hold a BSc in Computer Science or a similar field, or bring equivalent practical experience. • Show interest in the theory and practice of database query engines.

• Bring experience with databases or data management systems. • Show hands-on experience building database query engines. • Hold an MSc or PhD in a related domain. • Bring experience with query performance diagnostics and tuning.

• Understand and improve the current functionality of the MongoDB query engine. • Write high-quality C++ code and give and receive feedback in code reviews. • Design, implement, test and support features for query performance and robustness. • Build query language enhancements and diagnostics for query performance problems. • Integrate the query engine with other products and tools. • Fix bugs in stable releases and contribute to the next major version. • Mentor new engineers as you grow in the team.
