Lead Backend Software Engineer

• Join Too Good To Go as a foundational Lead Backend Software Engineer in its brand-new London engineering hub, working hybrid 2 days a week. • Help build a new hub and team from scratch, working remotely from the wider global Tech organisation. • Define, build and deliver product features with the freedom to decide how to reach outcomes. • Act as a technical anchor, owning complex backend challenges and setting high quality standards. • Guide mid-level engineers as the London hub grows. • Work on a Spring Boot and Java 25 platform running on Kubernetes across multiple AWS regions.

• Bring a wealth of backend development experience in the Java ecosystem. • Show production experience with Java, Spring Boot, MySQL, messaging systems and Git. • Bring experience with Domain-Driven Design and Clean or Hexagonal Architecture. • Know AWS services such as SQS, SNS and S3, plus Elasticsearch, Redis, Docker and Kubernetes. • Build RESTful APIs and scalable solutions. • Break down ambiguous technical tasks into clean, production-ready code independently. • Mentor mid-level engineers and act as a reliable sounding board. • Take pride in writing quality code within a cross-functional product team.

• Bring experience helping set up a new engineering team or hub. • Show experience with multi-region AWS deployments. • Bring experience working with the latest Java versions. • Show experience in marketplace or consumer app businesses. • Bring an interest in sustainability or social impact.

• Build and evolve backend services and infrastructure ahead of the company’s growth. • Develop new features for customers and partner businesses. • Own complex backend features end to end, from technical design through testing and deployment. • Work closely with your Lead Engineer to set high quality standards. • Take part in agile development processes with a continuous improvement mindset. • Deliver products with high quality, maintainability and scalability. • Take on tasks outside your usual boundaries to keep growing your skills.
