Senior Privacy Engineer

• Lead complex privacy engineering projects across key company-wide objectives, protecting the privacy of DuckDuckGo's users using Go, Node.js, Python, and Perl. • Own major components of DuckDuckGo's privacy technology, taking responsibility for their maintenance and improvement over time. • Participate in privacy review and audit processes, ensuring all product developments align with privacy principles. • Mentor other engineers over time, supporting their career growth and the growth of the Privacy Team.

• Lead and collaborate on high-impact and complex projects from proposal through postmortem. • Wrangle vague problems, propose innovative solutions, and execute them effectively, involving others when necessary. • Bring experience working on privacy solutions in an engineering capacity such as tracker blockers, differential privacy, or similar technology. • Have a deep technical understanding of online privacy threats and the existing solution space to protect against them. • Be proficient in any of the following: Go, Node.js, Python, or Perl. • Communicate excellently in writing and verbally, validating decisions and articulating them clearly to a variety of audiences including non-technical stakeholders.

• Have experience designing privacy-preserving systems for search indexes or AI features. • Bring familiarity with web tracking detection and crawler infrastructure. • Have experience with email privacy protection systems or similar consumer-facing privacy tools.

• Design systems for improving DuckDuckGo's search indexes and AI features without compromising user privacy. • Build new features on top of the Tracker Radar crawler to detect emerging privacy threats. • Implement new privacy features and maintain existing ones, such as Web Tracking and Email Protections. • Own major components of DuckDuckGo's privacy technology end-to-end. • Participate in privacy review and audit processes to ensure product developments align with privacy principles. • Formally mentor other engineers, supporting their career growth and the growth of the Privacy Team.
