Senior Privacy Engineer

• Lead complex projects across key company-wide objectives on the Privacy Functional Team, protecting the privacy of millions of users using Go, Node.js, Python, and Perl. • Own major components of DuckDuckGo's privacy technology, taking responsibility for their maintenance and improvement over time. • Design systems for improving search indexes and AI features without compromising user privacy, detect emerging privacy threats, and implement new privacy protections.

• Have the ability to lead and collaborate on high-impact and complex projects from proposal through post-mortem. • Have the skills to wrangle vague problems, propose innovative solutions, and execute them effectively, involving others when necessary. • Have experience working on privacy solutions in an engineering capacity such as tracker blockers, differential privacy, or similar technology. • Have a deep technical understanding of online privacy threats and the existing solution space to protect against them. • Be proficient in any of Go, Node.js, Python, or Perl. • Have excellent communication skills, able to validate decisions and communicate them clearly to a variety of audiences including non-technical stakeholders.

• Have experience designing privacy-preserving systems for search or AI features. • Have experience building or maintaining web tracking protection or email protection systems. • Have experience with crawler-based threat detection systems. • Have experience mentoring other engineers and supporting their career growth. • Have experience participating in privacy review and audit processes for product development.

• Lead complex projects across key company-wide objectives on the Privacy Functional Team. • Design systems for improving search indexes and AI features without compromising user privacy. • Build new features on top of the Tracker Radar crawler to detect emerging privacy threats. • Implement new privacy features and maintain existing ones such as Web Tracking and Email Protections. • Own major components of privacy technology, taking responsibility for their maintenance and improvement over time. • Participate in privacy review and audit processes, ensuring all product developments align with privacy principles. • Formally mentor other engineers over time, supporting their career growth and the growth of the Privacy Team.
