💼 What you will do

• Lead complex projects across key company-wide objectives using Perl, Go, and Node.js, writing pragmatic, performant, testable code that works consistently. • Collaborate remotely and take responsibility for solving product issues impacting DuckDuckGo's all-in-one privacy solution, whether large or small. • Work on AI-assisted answers, Duck.ai improvements, and sophisticated data processing pipelines that maintain search relevancy while preserving a privacy-first approach.

📋 Job Requirements

• Bring 7+ years of professional experience primarily focused on backend systems that power consumer-facing products. • Have product acumen to reason about technical tradeoffs in terms of user impact. • Have familiarity with AI agent tooling including evaluation frameworks, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering. • Have a fundamental understanding of complex data structures and algorithms, able to develop and apply new solutions and confidently navigate and improve existing code. • Have data-driven analytical skills for decision-making, stakeholder alignment, and experiment-oriented delivery. • Have solid project management abilities. • Have excellent written and verbal communication to validate and articulate decisions. • Have previous experience leading and mentoring experienced engineers, supporting their career goals, and unlocking their potential.

• Have experience with Perl 5, Go, or Node.js specifically. • Have experience implementing AI-assisted features within a privacy-first product. • Have experience building sophisticated data processing pipelines for search relevancy. • Have experience working in a privacy-focused consumer technology company.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Lead complex projects across key company-wide objectives using Perl, Go, and Node.js. • Write pragmatic, performant, testable code that works consistently. • Implement AI-assisted answers and integrate them into the Search product while maintaining a privacy-first approach. • Deliver improvements to Duck.ai to make it a competitive AI chat alternative for both free and paying users. • Implement sophisticated data processing pipelines that maintain search relevancy. • Formally mentor other engineers, supporting their career growth and the growth of the Backend Team.
