Senior Software Engineer, REDAPL Graph Engine

About the role

💼 What you will do

• Help take REDAPL, Datadog's Referential Data Platform, to the next level — the main platform for tracking customers' infrastructure resources and relationships. • Work on a platform that ingests more than 4.5 million updates per second and powers products including Cloud Security Posture Management, Resource Catalog, Cloud Cost Management, and Service Catalog. • Drive, lead, and collaborate on projects both inside and outside the platform, contributing to key technical decisions relating to data ingestion, processing, and query pipelines. • Available fully remote from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, or Switzerland.

📋 Job Requirements

• Hold a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field, or have equivalent experience. • Have worked extensively with multiple types of data stores. • Have contributed to initiatives in a platform or infrastructure-focused environment for several years. • Have led impactful technical initiatives where performance, cost efficiency, ease of use, and resilience are first-order concerns. • Have significant back-end engineering experience and have built and operated distributed systems at high scale.

🌟 Nice-to-have

• Have experience working with graph databases such as Neo4j, Memgraph, JanusGraph, ArangoDB, Amazon Neptune, or PuppyGraph. • Have production-grade experience with Apache Iceberg. • Have a solid grasp of query planning or have contributed to production-grade query engines or related projects such as Trino, Calcite, Substrait, or DataFusion. • Have demonstrated open-source contributions or PMC membership on query engine projects.

🎯 Responsibilities

• Build a query engine that supports efficient relationship traversals for the most demanding workloads. • Contribute to design and drive high-priority, high-visibility projects to increase the platform's value, resilience, and scalability across multiple teams. • Lead and guide other engineers through architectural platform decisions. • Identify potential system risks and trends in reliability and design solutions to address them. • Provide input on prioritising engineering-led initiatives in short- and long-term planning and roadmaps. • Collaborate with internal product teams to understand their requirements and plan for product growth as they integrate and depend on REDAPL.
