Senior Engineering Manager - Workers KV

• Lead the Workers KV team, which delivers Cloudflare’s global, low-latency, key-value data storage. • Support developers storing and retrieving data globally, powering dynamic APIs and websites that handle high read volumes at low latency. • Work on a product integrated with Cloudflare Workers and also available through the REST API, used for caching API responses and storing user configurations, preferences, and authentication details. • Sit within Emerging Technologies & Incubation, where new and bold products get built and released inside Cloudflare. • Solve problems at a scale and efficiency that Cloudflare’s edge and network make possible and almost no other organisation could match. • Work with a team of passionate engineers building products that bring security and speed to millions of internet users daily. • Shape product features and improve performance to make Workers KV the best it can be. • Work from London on a hybrid basis, joining a team distributed across Western Europe, with the role also open in Lisbon.

• Bring at least four years of recent professional experience with TypeScript or Go. • Bring a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented or functional design. • Bring a deep understanding of the web and technologies such as web browsers, HTTP, JavaScript, and WebAssembly. • Lead and hire a team that builds distributed systems. • Show a track record of leading a team through hiring, onboarding, and professional development, explaining the why as well as the how. • Communicate strongly, especially in building shared understanding of systems across a team. • Navigate uncertainty and ambiguity, since much of what the team builds has never been built anywhere before. • Plan, create teams, and oversee execution so commitments land predictably. • Build developer-loved APIs that scale. • Implement tools, processes, internal instrumentation, and methodologies, and clear blockages as they appear.

• Bring experience building high performance distributed systems. • Bring experience delivering and operating critical infrastructure for cloud platforms, especially serverless ones. • Bring deep Linux or UNIX systems, kernel, or networking knowledge. • Bring contributions to large open source projects. • Bring experience working with distributed storage and cache architectures. • Debug, optimise, and identify failure modes in large-scale Linux-based distributed systems. • Spot problems everyone else has normalised and build a solution with the latest tools.
