Senior Commercial Counsel

• Join Canva's Commercial Legal team as a sharp, business-minded lawyer helping the company close deals at pace, with precision and smart risk management. • Embed with the GTM teams, reviewing and negotiating a high volume of commercial agreements across enterprise, higher education, government, and strategic partnerships. • Bring expertise, good judgement, and strong business sense to assess and mitigate legal risk while keeping deals moving. • Play a key role in enabling strategic growth across EMEA and beyond. • Support a business with over 250 million users and a fast-growing Enterprise arm. • Work hybrid from the London campus around Hoxton Square in Shoreditch, which is home to Canva's EMEA operations.

• Be qualified to practise law in a relevant EMEA jurisdiction, such as the UK or an EU member state. • Bring 8+ years of in-house experience, primarily at a SaaS or fast-growth tech company. • Review and negotiate a variety of contracts hands-on at a fast-paced technology company, including enterprise SaaS transactions, AI terms, and DPAs. • Deliver timely, practical advice calibrated to risk, deal structure, and internal policy, framed so non-legal stakeholders can act on it. • Communicate excellently and make complex matters simple. • Work comfortably within cross-functional and internationally distributed teams. • Support international or cross-border transactions, ideally within EMEA or other multi-jurisdictional environments. • Embrace AI tools and workflows in legal work, and learn the fundamentals of how GenAI works to support sales contracts. • Get on the phone with customers and vendors when needed. • Prioritise effectively, balance expectations, and bring the pragmatism and agility the business needs day to day.

• Know Canva and SaaS offerings. • Have used contracting tools such as Ironclad and DocuSign. • Show demonstrated interest or experience using AI tools in a legal or operational setting. • Speak additional languages such as German or French, which Canva values highly.

• Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements with customers and channel partners. • Support and evolve the contracting approach across customer segments including government, higher education, and highly regulated industries. • Support partner-led and channel transactions, negotiating flowdown terms with resellers and other channel partners. • Support international and cross-border transactions across Canva group companies, navigating local legal and regulatory considerations. • Respond promptly to legal questions from Sales and Success, Finance, Deal Desk, and other teams. • Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards including data privacy and AI regulation. • Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, escalation guides, and other legal resources. • Design and deliver enablement and training so GTM and cross-functional stakeholders move faster and more independently on routine commercial matters. • Identify and implement improvements to contracting processes, workflows, and tools with a scalable, future-focused mindset. • Collaborate with Sales, Product, Finance, Security, and Privacy Legal to deliver practical, solutions-oriented support.
